dove in flight photo

CAMERA:

Medium format camera
80mm lens
short extension tube

SETUP:

Two medium sized soft-lights were used. The first was placed to the upper left and slightly to the rear and the second to the right and slightly forward. A large white fill reflector was added from just under the lens to just out of frame under the tail feathers. A laser trigger was aligned across the set so when the dove was released from above and behind the black backdrop he (actually she) would break the beam. Birds naturally spread their wings when released from above. A delay module was used to delay the trigger signal long enough for the dove to begin to open its wings before an electronic cable release tripped the shutter. I liked the way the eye pears at the camera between the open feathers.
